When grid planning becomes more complex, the way we work needs to become simpler

Varberg Energi Elnät operates the electricity distribution grid in the Varberg area and the southern part of Varberg municipality. Varberg Energi has a clear ambition to drive innovation, flexibility and a more active energy system, and has made significant progress in connecting the grid, energy production, storage and flexible resources.
At the same time, the grid business faces a future of growing power demand, capacity constraints in both its own grid and the upstream network, and considerable uncertainty about how future needs will develop.
To address these challenges, Varberg Energi Elnät has chosen Endre as its partner for long-term grid planning. A key part of the collaboration is to build a better understanding of future power demand and how developments across different sectors interact to affect the grid. The collaboration will also help streamline important parts of long-term planning, from scenario analysis and investment planning to the development of the grid development plan.
“Grid planning is becoming increasingly complex, with more factors to consider and greater uncertainty around future needs. This means we need to make our ways of working more efficient while improving our calculation methods. With Endre, we want to strengthen the quality of our decision-making and simplify key processes, such as grid development planning and investment planning,” says Hans Ljungström, Head of Power Grid at Varberg Energi Elnät.
“Varberg Energi has a clear ambition to be at the forefront of the transition towards a more complex and flexible energy system. We are therefore both proud and honoured that they have chosen Endre as their partner for strategic grid development,” says Elias Bernerskog, CEO of Endre.
